A smooth, rock-like structure covered in markings inspired by Maori tribal tattoos which fade and blend with the surface of the glaze. The markings speak of folklore, stories and beliefs passed down through generations which form identities and belonging. Seemingly precariously balanced on top of this ‘rock’ is a fold of fine porcelain sheets and a gold teardrop, both representing our human need for connection and belonging.
